The 100 Burpee Challenge (part 3 of 4)

I never thought that 100 days would go by so slow during this 100 Burpee Challenge! It’s day 75 and while I’m three quarters of the way done, I am getting burned out on the Burpees (mainly because they are a hell of an exercise!). Counting today, I have done 2887 Burpees in the last 75 days. That means in the last 25 days I have to complete 2163 Burpees. Oh what fun that will be.

The main reason that it is getting harder is that my elbows are killing me. I think that they both hurt so much from dropping down into the push-up position everyday. Since I am doing this 100 days in a row, there is no chance to rest and let them recover/heal up. So I guess that I am just going to suck it up for another 3 1/2 weeks until I am done.

Video: Me Doing 75 Burpees

Here’s the video of me on day 75 doing 75 Burpees as fast as I could. I did this on Wednesday, July 14th around 10:00 in the evening.

A Couple Of Notes About The Video:

I didn’t jump as high as I did on the first 25 (or the first 50) but I did get off of the floor every time. Maybe I should try and jump higher. I did these in my garage at home. Man this is getting hard!

I’ll keep at for the 100 days but then I know I will be taking a Burpee vacation for a while. It is a hell of an exercise and everyone that I tell this about think that I’m nuts. Oh well. None of them are doing either.

I’ll post the final installment in about three weeks. Hopefully I will increase my stamina because my goal was 5 minutes for 100. Right now it looks like the time would be around 7:30. I better pick it up!

      Darrin,

I’m not going to quit the challenge just to say that I finished but I really need to pick up the pace if I am going to do it in less than 5 minutes. Maybe I should have said 6 minutes….

  2. keep it up… but its interesting to see how your elbow hangs in there it might be a good test case for repetitive strain injury …haha sorry to see you as an example

      Ramond,

No doubt that it is a repetitive strain on the elbows. Only 23 days to go though then I will rest them (at least on that exercise!). Could be worse though, last year at this time I was 40 pounds heavier! That really would have stressed them!

    David,
Do you think you’re getting to the point of overtraining? I guess your body will get a nice break in 25 days. It’s great that you can keep pushing yourself. I’m betting you’ll get to 100 in 5 minutes. You seem to have that drive.

      Dave,

I don’t think it’s overtraining. Realistically the workout should take less than 5 minutes. It’s the repetitive nature of the exercise. My body feels fine except for my elbows. I suspect they hurt from dropping into the push-up.

I’ll push it to the end and try to get that 5 minute mark.

I’ve managed to get myself to do a descending set of 12 burpees (78 total) in about 10 minutes. I do 12, rest 15 secs, then 11, rest 15 secs, etc. My goal is a descending set of 20 (210) in 20 minutes or less. 15 Mins would be awesome.

I do this as part of my weekly ‘muscle’ workout every MWF, basically a nice little warmup before power cleans, push presses, front squats and back squats. I’m 42, but feel like I’m about 15-20 from the workouts I do. I’m better than I was at 20, way better, lol.

Burpees are awesome!!!, but why are they so murderous? All you are doing is getting down, doing a pushup and getting back up and jumping up. Doesn’t sound terrible…but do 20 of them! 75, I’m in awe!

20 burpees generates character and personality. 75! Knock TR off Mt. Rushmore.

Seriously, what makes the burpee so difficult/challenging? They suck, but I look forward to the challenge every MWF.

      Hazman,

I have never done 100 in a row so when I film it on the final day that will be the first time. I hope I don’t embarass myself though!

        Hey Dave,
You are a doll for saying that. I don’t know if you’ll read this before Friday AM. You are taking over for Kate–that is great. I have a bum hip and knee and am going into physical therapy at 7:30 tomorrow morning so I am going to miss your class. I’ll see about Saturday morning. I am so bummed because I was looking forward to your WOD. I think I just did something that threw it out of alignment and, hopefully, they can get it back. Keep up the great work–always good to see your wonderful smile.

        Ellen
